Comment(s): Created as a playful gift to the famous German furniture designer, publisher, and gallerist Jorg Schellmann. The word "mobel" is German for furniture, hence Warhol has created a "Furniture Soup" Can. Warhol gave it to Fred Hughes, his business manager, to in turn gift it to Schellmann. This didn’t happen and it was purchased from Hughes by a major Swedish art dealer shortly before Hughes' death in 2001, from whom it was purchased by our consignor. [30595-3-1600-NA] |
