Good to very good condition; no issues affecting the image; left edge unevenly trimmed, glue remains, recto; rippling of the sheet, upper center; two very small marginal edge tears, lower center. Comment(s): Auction records of Schwitters works similar to our example in size, composition, medium, and date include a sale at $30,405 (Swiss Franc 28,000) of “Untitled Merzzeichnung,” lot #551 on 09/09/2020 at Galerie Kornfeld and Cie, Bern, Switzerland. When Schwitters began creating collages after the First World War he called them Merzzeichnungen. "Merz" is a word fragment from "commerzbank."
