Comment(s): A very good comparable to our example is the sale for $39,905 (€35,000) of “Profile (Funf Kopfe nach links) [Profile: Five Heads to the Left], 5.31” x 11.50”, 1928, unsigned, at Christie’s Paris, 06/08/2016 lot #8. Schlemmer was a German painter, sculptor, designer, and choreographer associated with the Bauhaus school. Many of his celebrated works involve the representation of bodies as architectural forms, reducing the figure to a rhythmic play between convex, concave, and flat surfaces. Schlemmer died in 1943 so this work is in the public domain. [30499-2-12000-NA]
