Condition: overall good; a horizontal 1 5/8” band the length of the paper with associated soiling both recto and verso; a few creases lower right, including one relatively minor one into the image; jagged upper edge where work removed from a sketchbook; a few very minor edge tears. Artprice.com lists only 74 works in all mediums at auction since 1987. The most similar work to our example that we could find is “Construction de l’espace, temps III,” gouache, ink, and pencil on tracing paper, 17 1/2” x 14 3/4,” 1924, sold for $56,621 at Christie’s New York, November 5, 1991, lot #16. Van Doesburg, a Dutch painter born Christian Emil Marie Küpper, was an artist, writer, architect, and poet, best known as the founder and leader of De Stijl.
