Artist: Andy Warhol (American, 1928 - 1987). Title: "Blue Electric Chair". Medium: Color offset lithograph. Date: Composed 1963. Dimensions: Overall size: 19 3/4 x 14 in. (502 x 356 mm). Image size: 18 11/16 x 14 in. (475 x 356 mm). Lot Note(s): Signed in black marker, lower right. Very small edition. Cream wove smooth paper. The full sheet. Fine impression. Condition: Fair only. The poster is stapled into the catalogue, as issued, and the entire object is water damaged (the damage occurred after poster had been signed). The catalogue now exhibits wrinkling and staining while the poster is wrinkled with some ink losses where the poster was unfolded after having dried out. Sold as is, the catalogue as a reading copy and the poster for the (slightly damaged) signature. Literature/catalogue raisonne: cf. Feldman/Schellmann IIIA.4. Provenance: Private collection, Sweden, thence to our consignor. Comment(s): A scarce and early poster issued with the catalogue (which accompanies the lot) for the important exhibition at the Ilena Sonnabend Gallery, Paris, January-February, 1964. This was Warhol's first show in Paris and the first to exhibit his death and destruction series. After the painting of same date and title. No auction records located. Presumably to be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonne of Warhol's non-commissioned posters by Paul Marechal.
