Comment(s): “Retornos de lo vivo lejano,” published in 1977 by Collecion del Color y la Linea editorial R.M., Barcelona, is a book of poems by Rafael Alberti with accompanying lithographs by Antoni Tapies. Alberti’s poems, written in exile between 1948 and 1956, and the interpretational images of Tapies come together beautifully in this work. Large folio (sheet size 522 x 395mm - 20 1/2 x 15 1/2 in.) comprising 15 color lithographs, fine impressions in fine condition, 1 double-page wrap-around cover/wrapper, 6 full-page and 8 double-page, on 'papel guarro' paper, printed by Litografias Artisticas S.A., Barcelona, the full sheets, loose as issued, deckle edges two sides, each lithograph initialed by Tapies in pencil, with title, text, table of contents, numbering page, justification, and the lithographed paper wrappers, signed by the artist and the author in pencil and stamped and signed by a notary on the limitation page, half-title with lithographed text on verso, copy 33 from the regular edition of 100 (there was also a deluxe edition with an original gouache on the cover, eight lettered A-G, six lettered H-LL, six hors commerce lettered a-e, and one unnumbered for a total edition size of 121), the suite within the original hessian-covered folding box lettered with the artist's and author's names in black and blue, the box in impeccable condition.
